The congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita is a community of approximately 160 vowed women religious. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita can be found working in the Midwest and western United States and in three cities in Japan. Mount St. Mary Convent, located in Wichita, is the motherhouse for the congregation. The motherhouse serves the congregation in many different capacities: the administrative offices of the congregation, the novitiate, the archives for congregational records, the retirement center for sisters who are elderly or in need of long-term health care, and as home for other sisters whose ministries are located both inside and outside the motherhouse. Approximately 75 Sisters live in the motherhouse complex. Other sisters live in residences near their place of ministry. The 31 Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita who live and work in Japan sponsor the following ministries: a hospital and school for severely handicapped children; a kindergarten; a retreat center; and a nursing home, retirement center and day service center for the elderly. In the United States, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita participate in a wide variety of ministries: education, health care, parish ministry, social work, service to the elderly, service low-income people with disabilities, and prayer and prayer. Many sisters are involved with more than one ministry. Additionally, many sisters are semi-retired and work part-time in a ministry. The following is a brief description of the various ministries in which the Sisters are involved:
