Scripture courses. If you are interested in Scripture, there are three courses offered. After completing Part I, you are ready to take either Part II or Part III. Part I: Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation. A prerequisite for the Old Testament and New Testament courses. Based on New Horizons for the Word of God, a pamphlet containing the Vatican II document Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation and a commentary by the Rev. Eugene H. Maly and Monsignor Leon A. McNeill. Part II: The Old Testament consists of carefully-chosen passages from the various books of the Old Testament arranged in continuous narrative form. Your study puts you in touch with the roots of your Catholic faith and enlightens your understanding of those roots. It is a story of how God communicates with us in the history of salvation. The introduction, commentary and notes will help you understand both the themes of the Bible and its message of salvation. Part III: The New Testament is a study of the words and actions of Jesus Christ in the Gospels, the epistles, and the book of Revelation. You will be able to understand how God wisely arranged that the New Testament be hidden in the Old and the Old be made manifest in the New. Sacred Liturgy: A study of Catholic liturgical celebrations, including Mass, the sacraments, and the Liturgy of the Hours. Church History: A study of the Catholic Church from its founding to the present. The National Directory for Catechesis: Based on the document prepared by the Committee on Education and the Committee on Catechesis of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called the National Directory for Catechesis. Lessons consist of notes and open-book quizzes. There is no time limit for completing a course. All courses use Catechism of the Catholic Church, Libreria Editrice Vaticana. |
