Jubilarian

Sister Barbara presently works for the Federation, but more importantly she continues to make the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Wichita proud that she is a member of the congregation.   One can sense that she is aware that she and Jesus are one, when she cites her favorite scripture passage, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”
Barb believes her parents, sisters and brothers have been the most significant people in her life.  She also lists her mother, Geneva, Sister Evelyn Schlitzer, Sister Eileen Quinlan and Sister Marjorie Beaver as not only being significant, but truly wisdom figures for her.

A little girl

Barb describes as her most meaningful experience in life, when she truly discovered the meaning and spirituality of the Sisters of Saint Joseph:  She was doing research for her doctoral dissertation in London, England.  This led to a visit to Le Puy, France, where she met Father Marius Nepper and worked with the Federation Research Team on the translation and study of our primitive documents.
As a baby...
Upon completion of her studies, Barb spent time in ministry at Saint Mary of the Plains College serving in various capacities including Professor of History and as Vice President of Academic Affairs.  In 1984 she was elected to the General Council of the Sisters of Saint Joseph and served in that capacity for a
period of eight years.

Graduate

Sister Barbara Baer is well-known for her work with our CSJ Federation and considers this work as being some of the best experiences in her religious life.  She has helped in the planning of National Federation Events, has joined in the work of the Federation Collaborative History Project, and continues to
research in the various CSJ Motherhouse archives throughout the United States.

Before Barbara reached this place in her life she had many experiences all of
which have made her the gift she is to all of us today.  As a woman who calls
Wichita
her home, Barb attended Cathedral grade and high school and came to
know and love the Sisters of Saint Joseph.
